The winter program for JASNA MD was all about Austen in film. We invited film experts Linda DeLibero and Christopher Llewlyn Reed to talk about how Hollywood has presented Pride and Prejudice through the years.

The JASNA MD summer program celebrated the 200th anniversary of the publication of Mansfield Park and the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Baltimore. Since two of Jane Austen’s brothers served in the Royal Navy, and Fanny’s brother is an officer in the Navy in the book, we took a look at Navy on both sides of the ocean.
We went through several design concepts before coming up with winner (above). I particularly liked these runner ups…
I did this flyer / save the date for the Jane Austen Society of North America, Maryland Chapter’s December meeting. The bi-annual meeting is also organization’s chance to celebrate Jane’s birthday so I took advantage of the whole Holiday/birthday vibe on this flyer. Since we had an awesome guest speaker, Tracy Kiely, I made sure to feature her too.
When it came time to do a “Save the Date” email flyer for the Jane Austen Society of North America: Maryland Chapter’s summer meeting I considered all the usual art work suspects… the limited art work of Jane, art work from earlier editions of the books, something from the movies, fan work… nothing seemed right.
Since the meeting centered on tea followed by a book club where members talked about novels based on Austen’s books I thought why not go to my own shelf of Austen wannabes. An obliging throw blanket acted as back drop and I took the shot with my i-phone. (Since it was never going to go to print and was never going to be blown up very big I was satisfied with the quality of photo. And I loved that I could do the entire pro bono project at no cost. )
